Choosing colors for your wedding day can be a tricky task for many brides. You may have been dreaming of a beautiful pink, fairytale wedding your whole life and then the moment that fairytale becomes a reality pink doesn't seem like the best choice for you and your groom... But don't worry, picking colors can also be the most enjoyable part of planning your special day!

Many brides don't realize how many different combinations you can use to make your wedding beautiful. You don't have to stick to two colors. Feel free to go wild and express your personality through multiple colors. Whether you want to use two, three or even four colors, the sky is the limit with your options. A big trend recently is to use chocolate brown and cream as accent colors paired with a fun color, such as a bright lime green or subtle ballerina pink.

When narrowing down different schemes, it is a good idea to look at different factors that could influence your potential color choices. Factors such as geography, venue and time of year play a big part in picking your colors.

It is also a great idea to look at the colors used in your every day life. Looking at the decorations in your house or the clothes in your closet can be a huge indicator of what colors you subconsciously favor. You may not think you like a certain color more than others, but then you look at your house and all of your decorations are green. If that's the case, you should probably incorporate green somewhere in your wedding.

While picking a color may seem like the most dire part of the pre-planning process, it can also be a lot of fun and a great creative experience. Just remember to have fun throughout the planning process and everything will turn out perfectly on your special day!

Wedding Renewal on 11/11/11

Our wonderful client decided that they wanted to renew their Wedding Vows on 11/11/11 at the Boca Beach Club. It was an evening filled with beautiful rose color energy with a setting fit for the abundance of romance & love. Our design team designed the perfect setting of intimacy & romance under the stars and tenting.
Having a small group but with an elegant setting, gave this couple the feeling of their wedding day but with a little more love in their hearts for each other. How to decide Who to Invite to Your Wedding

Because so many other wedding-related decisions depend upon the number of guests, it is important to create your guest list early on.

First, sit down with your fiancé and discuss what general wedding size you envision. Do you prefer a cozy affair with only your nearest and dearest friends, or adore a huge party where every co-worker and distant relative is going to be included?

Then, write down a list of the people you definitely want to invite, and those you might include if you opt for a larger celebration. Don't forget to give each set of parents a certain number of guests to invite, but don't worry; you don't need to feel obligated to invite all your parents' friends, distant relatives, coworkers, and your friends' children to your wedding.

As you work on your guest list, keep in mind the following:

Traditionally, the guest list is divided equally between the bride and groom, but of course there's room for flexibility depending on the actual number of people each side of the family wishes to invite.

The general rule of thumb says to figure that only 80 percent of those invited will attend. However, don't count on it.

Sometimes one side of the family has a much larger guest list, for example if the wedding is being held in the bride's home town and the groom's family lives out of town.

If the bride's family is paying for the wedding and the groom's family wants to invite more guests than the original estimate included, the groom's family may offer to pay a proportional share of the reception expenses.

It is socially appropriate to invite an unmarried, unattached person without adding "and guest" to the invitation. It is not appropriate, however, to invite one-half of a married couple, one-half of a couple living together, or one-half of an engaged couple. If a single person is on the guest list and you know he or she is seeing someone seriously, it is thoughtful to invite both.

If you don't want children at the wedding or reception, don't invite them. A wedding invitation only requests the presence of the people whose names actually appear on the envelope. If guests ask if they can bring their kids, give a diplomatic answer, such as, "Unfortunately, we can only invite a specific number of guests and are at the limit." Then, be sure you don't allow any exceptions. Your friends who were turned down will be upset to see other people's children at the wedding (except for any children who are actually in the wedding party).

Think carefully about sending wedding invitations to people you know cannot attend. This can look like a solicitation for wedding gifts. If there are people you would like to inform about the wedding but you know cannot attend, you can send them a wedding announcement the day after the wedding. Of course, if there are people you know will not or cannot attend, but who might feel slighted if they did not receive an invitation, then by all means send one.

It's no surprise if you find yourself in the situation where there are more people to invite than the budget can accommodate. Your options are either prioritizing the list and removing guests, or scaling back on plans for your reception.

Cutting back on your list is never easy and it always comes down to a judgment call, balancing who in the family wanted the person invited and the closeness of the relationship. You should never be in a position of having to cut close friends from your guest list. If you find yourself having to do that, you might want to reconsider your design concept for the wedding reception (it may be too grand).

If you are fortunate enough to have unlimited resources (lucky you!), you might need to only make a few compromises to balance your budget, guest list, and vision for your wedding. However, it's good to remember that wedding planning is like marriage itself. It is all about learning to negotiate, compromise, and invent creative new strategies to find a happy medium that will please you both.

Instead of sitting down and passively consuming whatever is placed on the table, or grabbing a few passed hors d’oeuvres from whichever trays pass by, more and more often event guests are actively participating in their meals.

Catering chefs are emerging from the kitchen—or wherever they’ve been tucked away to prep the food—to let guests observe the cooking. Or they’re opening up the work space and inviting attendees to join in choosing ingredients and flavor enhancements.
Two of the buzzwords are customization and interactivity, and the point is to integrate the catering into the experience, to give food-crazy guests a chance to try something new. Make-your-own stations now go beyond salads and sundaes to all kinds of drinks, desserts, and entrées.
While often these changes mean putting a more prominent spotlight on the food, the movement away from long, seated dinners or static buffet stations can also allow attendees to focus on the point of the gathering. They can get up and mingle with each other instead of being stuck at a table for two hours. Or they can try out a new product, chat with a business contact, or listen to a presentation while the food comes to them, in waves of small plates passed in courses, or wheeled to them on carts.

Traditional runners in damask, burlap or woven textiles mixed with vintage glass vessels with a single color flower all en masse. Low bowls filled with fruits, vegetables and flowers create sumptuous look. Napkins are décor, if you put some thought into them. Coordinate the color with the flowers, tie with raffia and add a sprig of rosemary.

Use a small squash or gourd for the table number. This look can be very loose and relaxed or elevated to a level of sophistication and refinement. We would love to help plan your holiday tables.

Basic Floral Arranging Tips by Carlos

Here are a few tips from our lead floral designer.

Fresh flowers, whether just cut from the garden or brought home from the florist or market, are a gift from nature that glows with good cheer. Although you can plunk them in any old vase, if you know just a few tricks--such as the ones Carlos demonstrates here-- it's easy to create much more original displays.

Start by preparing the flowers so they'll last their longest.

- Cut garden flowers in the cool of early morning or after sunset. Immerse stems in cool water for about an hour before arranging them. (Add ice cubes to the water if it's a very hot day.)

- Cut stems on an angle, and remove any foliage that falls below the water line.
- Fill the vase with fresh, room-temperature water, and add a commercial cut-flower food. (Adding a teaspoon of liquid bleach to the water will prevent bacterial bloom.)
- Cluster the Flowers in a bunch in your hand, keeping
stems upright, and place them in the vase.
- Every two days or so, change the water, add a sprinkle
of flower food, and recut the stems if they've browned.

Select a container that will show off your florals best, whether you want to highlight their colors, graceful silhouettes, or ebullient blossoms. Look beyond the standard vase; consider bowls, pitchers, and even tumblers. If you want to protect your container from moisture (a good idea for any antique or porous clay), line it with a piece of plastic wrap, insert a plastic container to hold the water, and then begin arranging.

Although, they are sadly leaving for the season, we took a picture of this beautiful hot pink peony, garden rose, nerine lily and green hydrangea bouquet. We weren't sure if the peonies would still be around, but much to our happiness (& the bride) we were able to keep them around long enough for this special bouquet.

Special Events Designer, Boca By Design Michael White, seasoned Special Events Designer, started his design career in hotels & catering in the 80’s in Atlanta, GA whereas he started designing table tops. His clients included Coca Cola. In 1986, Michael relocated to Washington, DC and produced for Dr. Joe Goldblatt, The Wonder Company. Then in 1988, Michael relocated to LA and produced for Along Came Mary and opened White Lite Promotions; designing movie premieres & corporate events. Michael relocated to Tampa Bay in the late 90’s and started Michael White Productions specializing in charity galas. His major client was Hospice. He relocated to South Florida in 2003 and continued bicoastal events. In 2005, Michael White became Social Events Designer at Boca by Design. 2006, Michael became creative/marketing designer with Panache. 2008, Michael became sales/designer with BBJ Linens. 2010, Michael returned to Boca by Design as special events designer. Location of ceremony and reception: Boca Raton Resort and Club
Unique idea: With Jeanie being Chinese and Mark Jewish, the couple combined their cultures on their wedding day.

Many guests said their favorite part of the wedding was the addition of the Japanese taiko drummers, Fushu Daiko, to the traditional Jewish ceremony. After the ceremony, the couple had a Western-style wedding reception complete with the Jewish hora and other dancing.
Later on, the couple changed into traditional Chinese wedding garb for a Chinese tea ceremony in the resort's Presidential Suite. The long wedding day concluded with a Chinese banquet.
Multimedia: As for modern culture, Jeanie says to remember that we live in 2010 and multimedia can be used to make the wedding different.

Since Mark is a big Star Trek fan (and actually proposed at Star Trek the Experience in Las Vegas), the couple made their grand wedding entrance by appearing to beam into the room with help from special effects put into an engagement video by MThree Productions of Boca Raton.
Also, the couple presented a video montage showing their interests, which they put together with software they purchased. It showed them with friends and taking part in their hobbies.
Venue: Jeanie said she had the Boca Resort in her head all along because the couple loves vintage things, but after seeing the resort, they knew it was the place to make their wedding unique.

Jeanie said that Ivette Savoie, catering manager at the Boca Resort and Club, had 'such attention to detail, patience for all our questions, and a wonderful personality. Ivette was such a pleasure to work with. We were confident that we were in good hands.'

Jeanie added that Grace Eurglunes from Boca By Design (the resort's wedding and events company) helped transform the rooms into a magical place. 'She listened to the vision we had and worked with our budget,' Jeanie said. 'The flowers were gorgeous, the chuppah was beautiful. It truly looked amazing. She certainly had an eye for color and how to make things pop.'

Favorite Flower Find: Yellow Calla Lilies

While you won't usually see this flower predominating an arrangement or bouquet, the yellow calla lily is a great add-on to give any floral piece that perfect summery touch. It's bulbous, cup-like shape and vibrant yellow color make this flower stand out as and interesting and unique find. Here at Boca by Design we've added great texture and interesting variation to many of our floral designs with the help of the Calla Lily.

Of course, one of the most important floral needs for a bride is her bridal bouquet. The bouquet is one of the most detailed and personal items in the wedding. Some brides choose to tie in nostalgic and traditional items to their bouquet, such as fabric from their dress, fabric from their mom or grandmother's wedding dresses, lockets, hankies, broches, etc. We've had a bride attach delicate lockets with pictures of their beloved grandmothers on their bouquet or a beautiful broche that belonged to a family member that is no longer with them. Many brides will take left over material or lace from their dress to embellish the stems, which makes a very complimentary treatment. Along with the bouquet, it's important that the bride and groom compliment each other, which looks best in pictures. We always suggest the groom's boutonniere to have a flower from the bride's bouquet to make certain they make a smashing couple throughout the entire day. Separately, we encourage the bridesmaids bouquets and groomsmen boutonnieres to also compliment each other...

Layered Linens and Live Fish added a nice touch to our beach themed table along with a seashell chandelier and ornate table settings that were surrounded by white leather benches and an Ivy sofa.

An 8' banquet table was adorned with silver accents and dramatic yet sophisticated floral arrangements! Textured plum linens and pops of pink added to the drama along with Hot pink Cornelius chairs for the bride and groom!

Mirrored Chuppah gives that extra touch of glam and an elegant high topiary with hanging white phalaenopsis orchids is nice twist to your everyday sweetheart table!

Ritzy Romance: A Classic Romantic Wedding

Last month we enjoyed designing the floral arrangements for a beautiful wedding at the Ritz Carlton in Manalapan along with special event designer, Grace Eurglunes. The bride and groom, Andria and Ben, were looking to do a classic romantic look, so obviously they asked us to create bouquets and centerpieces of, light pink roses and deep rich pink peonies - a staple for a traditional wedding. Andria's bouquet was created with an array of light pink peonies, and garden roses accented with white orchids and tulips. Andria walked down a white aisle lined with pink and ivory rose petals and met her man-to-be under a white fabric structure that we adorned with gorgeous pastel florals. The combination of gleaming white linens and the romantic flowers made for a beautiful classic wedding.

Introducing Carlos Marquez

Boca By Design is proud to introduce Carlos Marquez, our head floral designer for Boca by Design. He began working in the floral industry in 1992. He began doing floral deliveries for a flower shop while getting his Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts and Humanities at the University of Puerto Rico. After graduation he specialized in weddings and home décor. He also worked as a set designer until 1999 for Production Companies in Puerto Rico (TV Commercials, Music Videos and movies such as Company Man with Sigourney Weaver and Under Suspicion with Morgan Freeman and Gene Hageman). In the year 2000 he began working as a floral designer for Atlas Floral Decorations of Florida. He worked as a home floral decorator and private in- home events as side jobs. In 2002 he began working at Boca by Design as a floral designer. He left for a new opportunity in Palm Beach and in 2004 worked for the Design Studio at the Breakers in Palm Beach. During his tenure there he was promoted to Lead Designer within one year and remained there for almost four years and one half years. He started again at Boca by Design in October of 2008 running the floral department as floral supervisor and head designer.

2009 Pro Celebrity Tennis Classic an evening with Natalie Cole. 20th anniversary Gala dinner and dance. The theme was elegance with a touch of bling. Surrounded by multi level centerpieces.

The high and low centerpieces made for a breathtaking view.

Low centerpieces of different heights and whites made for a beautiful presentation.

The tall centerpieces on the crystal vases seemed to be floating on air.

White LED lights inside the Cala Lilies were found at the entrance of the gala.

A beautiful venue, wonderful food and great vendors set the stage for the fabulous Vive Wedding Showcase held at our very own Boca Resort & Club on Monday November 16, 2009. Thank you to Galina Vitols from Upscale Photo for the beautiful pictures you took of one of the stunning centerpiece designs by our head floral designer Carlos and our chuppah display that was the center focal point of the Cathedral Room. We enjoyed getting to meet the future brides and other vendors during the enjoyable evening.
